THEATRE "GLIUKŲ TEATRAS"

Benas Šarka (born on 1963), the actor and director of the theatre, accomplished the stage direction studies and graduated from the Klaipėda Theatre Art Faculty of the State Conservatory (now the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre) in 1988. In 1991, he founded the Gliukai Theatre at the then Klaipėda Music Centre. The theatre does not have a permanent theatre group and it is true to say that the theatre consists of one person: Benas Šarka, the actor and director. He creates his performances in collaboration with various actors and artists.

Since the beginning of his work at the theatre, Šarka has created over 50 theatre and movement productions, projects and performances, and when it comes to the participation in international theatre, street theatre and experimental art festivals the number is close to one hundred.

Since 2005, the Gliukai Theatre operates as one of the theatre groups of the ŽVEJŲ RŪMAI Culture Centre of the Klaipėda City Municipality.

Gliukai diversify the leisure time of people of different ages, various genders and different nations, help artists cremate for free, braid eternal wreaths, and crush culture bulbs to make it darker” (B. Šarka).
