The dance performance “Faust” is one of the creative projects dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Musical Theater in Klaipėda. It was based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s philosophical tragedy “Faust”, written in 1797–1831, thus reflecting the period during which the German Theater in Klaipeda developed and was established.
The chrestomathy story of Dr. Faust is told here in the language of dance. Legendary 16th century the alchemist and scientist Faust was known as far back as William Shakespeare, but he was best known for his philosophical drama by J. W. von Goethe. When she appeared, Faust became a popular character in music, art, film and theater. People who are relentless, constantly looking for the meaning and happiness of life, and who are determined to sacrifice important things in the name of being able to see the future, are still called Faustian.
“Faust” was staged in Klaipėda by Polish dancer, choreographer and pedagogue Robert Bondara.
